🧱 Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day in the Hudson Valley with NickleBrick Workshop™
This past weekend was something truly special.
NickleBrick Workshop™ had the honor of being part of a local World Down Syndrome Day celebration here in the Hudson Valley, surrounded by families, advocates, and organizations all coming together for one shared purpose—celebrating inclusion, awareness, and community.
Events like this are exactly why NickleBrick Workshop™ exists.
💛 A Day Rooted in Inclusion and Connection
World Down Syndrome Day is about more than awareness—it’s about recognizing ability, creating opportunities, and building spaces where everyone feels seen and valued.
Being part of this event, recently featured in the Hudson Valley Press, was incredibly meaningful for our family and our mission.
As a parent, and as the founder of NickleBrick Workshop™, this isn’t just something we support—it’s something we live every day.
Our Builder-in-Chief, Nickle, inspired this entire business through his love of structured, hands-on building. Seeing him—and so many others—engaged, focused, and proud of what they created is a reminder of how powerful the right environment can be.
🧱 Bringing Hands-On Building to the Community
At the event, we created a space where kids and families could:
• sit down and build freely using LEGO® bricks
• explore creativity at their own pace
• engage in calm, hands-on play
• experience a welcoming, no-pressure environment
Some children jumped right in and started building immediately.
Others took their time, observing first, then slowly joining in.
Every experience was different—and every one of them mattered.
Because that’s what inclusion looks like.
🌱 Why This Work Matters
Moments like these reinforce something we believe deeply:
When you create simple, structured, and supportive environments,
people don’t just participate—they thrive.
NickleBrick Workshop™ was built on that understanding.
We repurpose pre-loved LEGO® bricks into curated build kits and community experiences—not just to create something fun, but to create something meaningful.
Something that supports:
• focus and independence
• confidence through completion
• connection through shared activity
• opportunities for individuals of all abilities
🏡 Building Toward Something Bigger
While we currently operate as a mobile pop-up business throughout the Hudson Valley, events like this are part of a much larger vision.
Our goal is to grow NickleBrick Workshop™ into a dedicated space that includes:
• a vocational build lab for teens and adults with developmental disabilities
• hands-on workstations that build real-life skills
• inclusive employment opportunities
• a welcoming front space for families to build, connect, and belong
This weekend was a small glimpse of what’s possible.
🤝 Thank You to Our Community
We are so grateful to have been part of this celebration and to stand alongside so many incredible people and organizations doing meaningful work in the community.
To every family who stopped by, built with us, or shared a moment—thank you.
You are part of this story.
